George Clover

This summer, Will St Pier and George Clover — both well-known faces at Helmores Estate Agents in Crediton — are taking on a truly monumental cycling challenge. Rather than choosing the direct route from Barnstaple to Lyme Regis, they’ve opted for the long way round — tracing the dramatic and winding coastlines of North Devon, Cornwall, and South Devon before arriving in Lyme Regis, East Devon.
Armed with determination, road bikes, and a cause close to their hearts, the pair will be pedalling an estimated 400+ miles and climbing an eye-watering 35,000 feet — that’s more elevation gain than climbing Mount Everest! With the rugged coastlines and steep rolling hills of the South West, this will be a gruelling physical and mental test, pushing them to their limits day after day.

A Coastal Gauntlet
From the relentless climbs of Porlock Hill in Exmoor (one of the steepest roads in the UK), to the wild ascents of North Cornwall’s Atlantic Highway, and the constant ups and downs through Devon’s South Hams, this route isn’t just long — it’s brutally hilly. Each coastal bend brings with it a new hill to conquer, with narrow lanes, wind-battered cliffs, and long days in the saddle.
Some standout challenges include:
• Porlock Hill – 25% gradient in places, and over 1,300 ft of elevation gain in just a few miles.
• Zennor to St Ives – Stunning but savage coastal rollers with sharp climbs and fast descents.
• Dartmouth to Start Point – Remote and endlessly undulating, with very little flat respite.
• Sidmouth to Lyme Regis – The final stretch, with the infamous Salcombe Hill as a final sting in the tail.

Riding for a Reason
Will and George are undertaking this adventure not just for the personal challenge, but to raise vital funds for three incredible local charities:
🟢 Pete’s Dragons – A Devon-based suicide bereavement charity offering support to individuals and families who have lost a loved one to suicide. Their compassionate work provides specialist grief counselling, practical support, and a safe space for people during their darkest moments.
🟣 FORCE Cancer Charity – Based in Exeter, FORCE has been offering free support to cancer patients and their families for decades. From counselling and support groups to practical help and a welcoming drop-in centre, FORCE ensures nobody in Devon faces cancer alone.
🟠 Crediton Foodbank – A lifeline for local families in need, the foodbank provides emergency food parcels, support, and kindness to those struggling to make ends meet. With demand higher than ever, they are a crucial part of the Crediton community safety net.

Join the Ride (From Your Sofa!)
The ride is proudly supported by Helmores Estate Agents, and you can follow Will and George’s journey each day via updates on Helmores’ social media. Expect sweaty selfies, coastal views, brutal hill stats — and hopefully, a few ice creams along the way.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference — and helps push them one pedal stroke closer to the finish line.

Let’s cheer them on, share their story, and raise some serious funds for these life-changing causes.
