Danes Beyond 400: The Solar Panel Project
Focussed on environmental and financial sustainability, Borlase has an ambitious plan to install PV panels around the school site to harness energy from the sun, reducing the amount of energy the school draws from the grid (and even selling back to the grid), leaving more money for our core purpose, educating children.
The first phase of this plan is to raise money as a school community through sponsored activities by individuals over the Easter break. The aim is for Borlase students, staff and families to complete a combined lap of the world with money raised by each house separately. This will be supplemented by a 'Green Day' on 25 April with students wearing non-uniform (accessorising in green!) and live music from school bands including numbers by... you guessed it... Green Day.
Phase 1
Monies raised will go to putting 27 PV panels on the Canteen roof before we go out to local businesses, charities and foundations for further funding to put a total of 360 panels on the Old Gym roof, Science block, Centenary Hall, and Sports Hall. Each panel costs approximately £500 including installation costs.
With a 25% ROI, in 4 years' time each panel will have paid for itself while your sponsorship will continue to give to the school, supporting education of the next generations of Borlasians, for the next 20 years.
