On 22 June, a group of Pete’s family and friends will be taking on the Freckleton Half Marathon in his memory.
Pete was more than just a loved one—he was an inspiration. In 2024, he had his heart set on running the 60th Freckleton half marathon, however in January 2024, he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. After undergoing surgery in March, and chemotherapy meant he had to sit the half marathon out. Pete spent the following months training, determined to make it to the 2025 race and raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK.
In December, he signed up, ready to take on the challenge. But life had other plans. In February 2025, Pete became unwell again. On the 5th, he received devastating news—his cancer had returned. Despite multiple procedures, there was nothing more that could be done. Pete was taken into St Catherine’s Hospice, where he was surrounded by the most incredible, compassionate care. Just 18 days later, on 23rd February, Pete passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
Pete’s determination, courage, and kindness left a lasting mark on all of us. He had inspired so many of us to take part in the Freckleton Half Marathon, and while he won’t be there to cross the finish line himself, we’ll be running it for him.
Every step we take will be in his memory, and every pound we raise will go toward two causes close to Pete’s heart—Bowel Cancer UK and St Catherine’s Hospice. Donations will be split 50/50 to help fund vital research and provide the same compassionate care that Pete received in his final days.
Pete ran his race with strength and heart—now it’s our turn to do the same.
