Sue’s challenge at 70

June 28th - challenge successfully completed!!
It’s a lovely route, very well organised, great marshals and fellow runners and a lot of climb. The first 2 stages are mostly uphill (nearly 5k), thank goodness for the refreshments there and thank goodness I’d my running buddy. My troublesome back was that, but reassuringly, not only me was mixing walking with running. Stages are an excellent idea for both mind and body, but we soon realised you had to be mindful of time between stages. It was also warm, but we did it! Pete, thanks for the idea, Natalie, my training and running buddy and everyone else supporting me, my challenge and my charities. I found my limit! However, hopefully I’ll do more yearly running based challenges but 10k as a maximum!!

Update at 1 week to go (June 21st). So, the training plan has been followed and we’re due to taper this week, we did our longest run last week - golly a long way; as planned, we ran 8x2k with .5k walks between, yes we ran 10 miles! Just hope the event, though longer, feels no harder nor is it any warmer. Yes, a charity challenge for mind and body! And thank you to all who have sponsored me to date (and those who are promising to, and maybe some more might …….) so good to see my total reaching the £ 600+ figure today and with gift aid £700+, so ……

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page (Updated May 15th).
So, I’m back from a wonderful holiday where, yes, I did do a Parkrun! 7.30am, 25 degrees and v humid! But now only 6 weeks to the event and from time based pre holiday to distance post holiday and off road whenever we can. Oh gosh. Tomorrow it’s 2.0k +.5k walk, 6 times! And then building to more. So thank you if you’ve sponsored me, please will you if you’re thinking about it?

So yes, I’ve turned 70 and how to mark the year? Something to keep me as fit as possible, something I’ve not done, something…… but what? I’d wondered about one more 1/2 marathon, but the training and affects on my body, oh dear, older age! But then a friend suggested the Round Sheffield Run. I researched, decided no, changed my mind and entered, but not as my fundraiser, and then, indecisive as ever, yes it is! So, June 28th, 20k (12.5 miles) of running and a 24k route - 11 stages - is my challenge.

It’ll be a challenge physically, mentally and of stamina; friends who know me know I wilt at 80 minutes on my feet, at whatever speed. And how long will recovery take? My Thursday running buddy and I start building up on Friday!

The charities are as before; Arthritis Action, British Heart Foundation and Hospice UK. Thank you for reading this and, hopefully sponsoring me either via the link or with cash in the usual way.
