At dawn on the Danube, the river is still, the air cold, the oars waiting. Ahead lies 2,400 km of water, eight countries, unpredictable weather, and weeks of physical and mental endurance. Most people look at a map of Europe and see borders. We looked at the same map and saw a question:
How can a river help change the lives of real people?
The Danube Row is our answer — a challenge born from shared purpose, shaped by loss, hope, and the belief that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they act together.
We row for three charities whose work has touched and still touches our lives and the lives of those close to us, all our futures and landscapes.
LOROS Hospice gives dignity and eases worries at the hardest moments of life. Their care is gentle, human, and essential — supporting families through pain, grief, and the quiet courage of saying goodbye. Every donation helps provide specialist nursing, comfort, and compassion when it matters most.
My Name’5 Doddie Foundation carries forward the spirit of Doddie Weir, funding research and support for those living with Motor Neurone Disease. MND is relentless — but so is the determination to find a cure. Every pound fuels research, clinical trials, and HOPE.
The Rivers Trust protects the waterways that sustain us. Rowing the Danube makes one truth impossible to ignore: rivers are alive, and they are under threat. Pollution, habitat loss, and climate change are damaging ecosystems we depend on. The Rivers Trust restores habitats, improves water quality, and fights for healthier rivers for generations to come.
The row itself is raw and real. Blisters split. Storms rise without warning. Some days the wind pushes us backwards. Other days the river feels like a companion. Along the way there'll be strangers who offer food, kindness, or simply a smile from the bank. Proving that humanity is as wide as the river and just as powerful.
