The Yukon 1000 - Catch Us If Yukan!
Having previously completed the 125-mile non-stop Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon, also known as ‘the longest non-stop canoe race in the world’, we are now looking to complete the set by competing in ‘the world’s longest canoe race’ – The Yukon 1000…
Covering 1000 miles of the Yukon River from Canada to Alaska, the Yukon 1000 is an unsupported wilderness paddling race that goes through some of the emptiest land on the continent (www.yukon1000.org).
The race will commence on 12th July and must be completed within 10 days.
“The race starts in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada and ends at the Dalton Highway Bridge, Alaska, USA. The race is an epic adventure that tests the physical and mental fortitude of the participants. Competitors must cope with paddling 18 hours a day just to complete the race. Completely self-sufficient, teams sleep rough where they stop, and in extreme cases must be able to survive in true wilderness. The race is an epic adventure that immerses you in the raw, untouched wilderness that few humans will ever experience. More people have been up Everest than have been beyond Dawson City.”
We are genuinely appreciative of the opportunity to compete in this year’s event in what will be an incredible experience that will undoubtedly test us to the limits of our physical and mental abilities, however, we are not just doing this for personal accomplishment, but also to raise awareness and funds for two great causes:
- The Royal Marines Charity - Offering lifelong support to both serving and veteran marines and their families
- PSC Support - The only UK patient organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), a rare liver disease
Thank you for your support and encouragement,
Nick & Chris
