Flora's Story
22320
During her 9 months of life, Flora brought so much joy and love to everyone she met with her huge smile and big blue eyes.
When Flora suddenly became unwell with meningitis, our world changed forever. She fought so incredibly hard, showing a strength and courage that we will carry in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
Flora received initial treatment at A&E in Airedale General Hospital before being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary’s Paediatric Critical Care Unit by the Embrace Ambulance Service. We are eternally grateful to the dedicated medical teams for their expertise and tireless efforts as they tried to save her.
Sadly, despite their best efforts and Flora’s strength, she passed away peacefully in our arms on the 1st October 2026 at Martin House Children’s Hospice. Nine months was nowhere near enough time with our baby girl; we will always cherish the love and happiness she brought into our lives.
During this heart breaking journey, Martin House Children’s Hospice and Eckersley House, part of The Sick Children’s Trust, also played an important role in supporting us. They provided comfort, kindness and accommodation so we could stay close together as a family throughout Flora’s illness and during the immediate days after she passed away. They continue to offer invaluable ongoing support. We will always be thankful for the care and compassion shown to our family.
Flora may no longer be physically by our side, but her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched and the difference she can make for other children and families. Through fundraising in her memory, we hope to give something back to the incredible organisations that supported us and help other children and families who in the future will face their own unimaginable challenges.
The money we raise will go towards Martin House Children’s Hospice, Eckersley House (The Sick Children’s Trust) and The Millie Wright Children’s Foundation. By supporting these organisations, we hope to enable other families to continue to receive the care and kindness we experienced, and to ensure that Flora’s name makes a difference long into the future.
Although her time with us was far too short, she will forever be our guardian angel, shining brightly above and guiding us forward. Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity and support in helping us honour our beautiful Flora.
All our love,
Joe & Jen
