*Update - Thanks to everyone who has donated to these too great causes. Sadly the Ironman event was cancelled due to bad weather. This is a massive disappointment to Chris and I but we will dust ourselves down and return to complete the event next year to ensure that your generous donations are earned x
On 4th October 2026 Chris and Nick are competing in the Barcelona/Calella Ironman and taking on a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26 mile run. As well as battling for ultimate bragging rights, they hope to raise money for two great charities, Cornwall Hospice Care and Bowel Cancer UK. Donations will be split evenly between the two charities.
Nick’s dad Andy was a popular teacher and keen sportsman having ran for his county as a teenager, finished numerous marathons and played rugby for Redruth Old Boys and the Bolingey Barbarians well into his 40s. At 60 he was diagnosed with bowel cancer and despite 5 years during which he remained as active as ever, he sadly passed away in 2015 aged 65. Nick’s raising money for Bowel Cancer UK to help them support patients, their families and fund new research.
Chris will be competing to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care, a charity that means a huge amount to his family. Chris lost his father-in-law, Lydia’s dad Nigel, to cancer a few years ago, and the care and support they all received from Cornwall Hospice Care during his stay there was incredible. It's only through donations that such an amazing charity can continue to run.
Whilst Chris and Nick are looking forward to the challenge, there will be moments during those MANY hours of suffering when they’ll wonder why on earth they signed up! When that happens, they’ll be thinking about friends and family and in particular Nigel and Andy and the money they’ll raise to support two worthy charities.
If you can spare anything at all, Chris and Nick would be incredibly grateful for your support x
