Out Of The Blue - Everest Basecamp X Mera Peak Expedition Fundraiser
21441
On 25th October 2026, we are taking on the biggest physical and mental challenge of our lives so far.
Over 27 days, we’ll trek almost 250km through the Himalayas, gaining over 10,000m of elevation along the way.
We’ll first make our way towards Everest Base Camp at 5,364m, staying in tea huts along the route. We’ll then descend back down before beginning our journey towards Mera Peak, which stands at 6,476m.
As we climb higher into the Hinku Valley, we’ll eventually cross the Mera Glacier before reaching High Camp at around 5,700m. We’ll spend the night there in temps that can plunge well below -20°C, before setting off in the early hours using crampons and ropes for the final push to the summit.
At that altitude, oxygen availability is halved.
1 in 4 who attempt Mera Peak don’t make it to the summit, so we know reaching the top is far from guaranteed.
Why are we doing it?
There’s something about being in the mountains that makes everything else disappear for a while.
You’re not worrying about what happened yesterday or what might happen next year.
You’re thinking about the next step.
The route.
The weather.
The views.
The people around you.
Getting to the top.
You’re completely present.
For us, that feeling has become incredibly important for our mental health.
We know that climbing a mountain isn’t a solution to mental health struggles. But having something to work towards, something to look forward to, and something that gives you a sense of purpose can make a huge difference.
For us, the mountains provide that reset. A chance to step away from the noise, reconnect with nature, and be fully present in a world that increasingly pulls us in every direction except the present moment.
Why OutOfTheBlue?
We’re taking on this challenge to raise £2,000 for OutOfTheBlue, a foundation close to home and very close to our hearts, supporting mental health and wellbeing.
We’ve known the people behind OutOfTheBlue for our entire lives, and we’ve seen first hand the impact that mental health struggles can have on the people around us.
Will’s death had a massive impact on everyone who knew him, and some of the young people affected were our closest friends growing up. It’s something that has stayed with us, and is a big part of why this cause means so much to us.
When someone breaks a bone, we see they need help. Mental health struggles aren’t always visible, so we’re not always as quick to help, and sometimes that difference can cost a life. We believe that needs to change.
If you’d like to support the challenge, any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean a huge amount to both of us and help support the work OutOfTheBlue does for mental health and wellbeing.
Where does your money go?
The money raised through OutOfTheBlue supports four charities, each doing different but vital work around mental health, suicide and bereavement:
Winston’s Wish — supporting children and young people who have experienced the death of someone close to them, providing specialist bereavement support and resources.
Dragonflies — providing free support to children and their families before and after bereavement.
CALM — working to prevent suicide and supporting people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts or affected by suicide.
Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team — providing compassionate, frontline support to people in crisis at Beachy Head, as well as helping to save lives through their patrols and emergency response.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our challenge and for supporting us 💙
