Barney's Boys: Rowing 3700 Miles Across the Indian Ocean
21232
In May 2028, 4 men will step into a boat on the coast of Geraldton, Australia, and begin one of the hardest physical challenges on Earth — an unsupported row across 3,700 miles of open ocean to Grand Baie, Mauritius. No support boat. No stopping. Just oars, waves, and each other, for as long as it takes.
This isn't our first time taking on the ocean. Several of our crew rowed the Atlantic together in 2024, learning first-hand what it takes to survive weeks at sea — the physical toll, the mental resilience, and the value of a crew who trust each other completely. That experience is the foundation we're building on for an even bigger challenge: the Indian Ocean.
Our crew name carries a deeply personal meaning. Barney was the son of our Skipper, Rod, and he sadly lost his life to meningitis at just three years old. Barney's Boys was formed in his memory, and everything we do is dedicated to him.
Our goal is to raise £250,000 for three charities close to our hearts:
Meningitis Now — funding research and supporting families affected by meningitis.
Get A-Head — supporting patients facing head and neck cancer, funding pioneering treatment and reconstructive care.
The Veterans Charity — supporting the men and women who served our country.
Rowing across the Atlantic taught us what it means to push through pain, fatigue, and doubt as a team. The Indian Ocean will demand even more — weeks of isolation, physical strain, and an unforgiving environment. But we're rowing with purpose, and that purpose is Barney.
Every mile we row, every pound raised, keeps his memory alive and helps families facing meningitis, patients battling cancer, and veterans who've given so much for us.
Join us. Follow the crossing. Help us reach £250,000.
