2,200 STEPS FOR 9/11
21115
Remembering the fallen. Supporting those who serve.
On 11th September 2026, firefighters from Newtownards and Comber Fire Stations will unite at Ards Leisure Centre for a gruelling stair climb challenge to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
We will climb 2,200 steps—the equivalent height of the World Trade Center's 110 floors—in full structural firefighting PPE and carrying heavy breathing apparatus on the StairMaster machines.
This challenge is not about personal achievement. It is about honoring the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in New York 25 years ago, and raising vital funds for two incredible causes.
THE CHALLENGE
2,200 STEPS in full fire kit & breathing apparatus
WHEN: 11th September 2026
WHERE: Ards Leisure Centre
WHO: Firefighters from Newtownards & Comber Fire Stations
The weight, the heat, the burning legs, and the fatigue will be intense—a physical reminder of the bravery displayed by those who ran toward danger while others fled. Every step we take honors those who never made it home.
PROUDLY SUPPORTING TWO VITAL CHARITIES
The Fire Fighters Charity: Providing life-changing physical, mental, and social health support to serving and retired firefighters and their families across the UK.
Marie Curie: Delivering expert care, comfort, and support to individuals living with a terminal illness, as well as their loved ones, during their most difficult moments.
PROUDLY SPONSORED BY BLACKWATER GRAPHICS
We extend our sincere thanks to Blackwater Graphics for proudly supporting us in this event. Their generous support helps us bring this challenge to life and maximise the impact for our chosen charities.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We will take the steps, but we need your help to reach our fundraising target. Whether you can give £5, £10, £20, or more, every single donation directly impacts lives in our community.
