Gemma Mead's ABP Southampton Marathon Festival 2027
20860
The ABP Southampton Marathon Festival returns on 11th April 2027, bringing runners together from across the UK for a full weekend of movement, music and community, marking 11 years since it first began in 2016. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking on your first race, or supporting from the sidelines, this is one of the South Coast’s standout sporting events.
Running for my Aunty Jan ❤️
I’m taking on a half marathon for someone incredibly special to me — my aunty Jan, who is living with mesothelioma.
Four years ago, Jan underwent a major operation as part of her treatment. Thankfully, that operation has helped to keep the cancer at bay, but mesothelioma doesn’t simply disappear from your thoughts once treatment is over. Every three months, she has to go through another check-up, and with each one comes that horrible wait and uncertainty, hoping desperately for the words that everything remains stable.
Watching someone you love live with that uncertainty is incredibly difficult. Jan has faced everything that has been thrown at her with such strength and determination, and she is the reason I want to do something positive.
So, I’m putting on my running shoes and taking on 13.1 miles in her honour. 🏃♀️❤️
There will undoubtedly be moments during the training and the race itself when my legs hurt and I question why I signed up! But when it gets tough, I’ll think of Jan and everything she has faced over the last four years. Compared with her strength and determination, those difficult miles will feel very small.
By raising money, I hope I can help support people affected by mesothelioma and contribute towards a future where families like ours have more treatment options, more answers and, most importantly, more hope.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will mean so much to me and my family. And if you can’t donate, simply sharing my page would be amazing too.
This one is for you, Aunty Jan. ❤️
13.1 miles — every single one with you in my thoughts.
