Two Bikes. Two Castles. Three Charities. One Journey.
20522
My son George and I have decided to take on an adventure together, cycling from Cardiff Castle to Edinburgh Castle to raise money and awareness for three charities that are incredibly close to our hearts.
But we're not exactly doing it the easy way.
We'll be setting off on borrowed bikes, carrying limited kit and bikepacking our way north from Wales to Scotland. No luxury, just the two of us, our bikes and a determination to keep turning the pedals.
Thankfully, we won't be completely alone. Cooper and Eva will be supporting us along the journey, helping us tackle whatever the road decides to throw at us.
And we're fairly certain it will throw a few things!
Why are we doing it?
At the heart of this adventure are three organisations:
2Wish - working across Wales and England to provides immediate and ongoing bereavement support to families, friends and professionals affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young adult aged 25 or under, ensuring they don't have to face their grief alone.
Diabetes UK - working across the UK to provide key support, educate and research.
Bluedoor Education in Malta providing free literacy, language and practical life-skills education to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence and greater opportunity.
These aren't simply three charities we've picked from a list. Each one means something to us.
Their work has touched our lives, impacted people and communities we care deeply about, and helped us understand just how important the right support can be at the right moment. Behind each charity are real people, real families and real stories.
As we make our way from Cardiff to Edinburgh, we'd love to introduce you to each organisation, share more about the incredible work they do and explain a little more about why their work has become so important to us.
This ride isn't really about bicycles - - - It's about people.
It's about the families supported by 2Wish, the millions of lives touched by Diabetes UK, and the opportunities created through Bluedoor Education.
It's also about a father and son deciding to do something slightly ridiculous together in the hope that our adventure might make a difference to someone else's life.
The Challenge
There will be tired legs. There will probably be rain. And there will almost certainly be moments when one of us wonders whose idea this was.
So we thought we'd make things even harder.
Throughout the ride, your donations will unlock challenges for us to complete. If we raise a certain amount per day the challenges below will apply.
£100 - No morning coffee for 30 miles
£300 - Silly costumes for 30 miles
£500 - A shot of hot sauce at the start of the day
£700 - One song for 1hour on repeat
£1000 - both legs waxed
£5000 - Run through Edinburgh in Bikinis! eek!
We'll share the journey as we go — the highs, the lows, the laughs, the scenery, the challenges and probably a few moments we'd rather weren't caught on camera.
We'd Love You to Join Us?
You don't need to get on a bike or carry a backpack to Scotland.
And you definitely don't need to cycle up all those hills.
You can be part of the journey simply by donating, sharing our story or telling someone about these three fantastic charities. Every donation, whatever the amount, will help. And every share helps us tell another person about the work of 2Wish, Diabetes UK and Bluedoor Education.
We'll start beneath the walls of Cardiff Castle, We'll point our borrowed bikes north And, one pedal stroke at a time, George and I will make our way towards Edinburgh Castle.
Two bikes.
Two castles.
Three charities.
One father-and-son adventure.
And hopefully, with your help, one journey that makes a real difference.
