Finlay's Run

On Sunday 4th October, over 40 friends and family will come together to take part in The Great Scottish Run in loving memory of our son, Finlay.
In 2024, we lost Finlay to suicide at just 20 years old. His loss has left a space in our lives that can never be filled. He was deeply loved, and we miss him every single day. He had many friends from his school days to when he was studying in Aberdeen, and was described as a great listener, always supporting and encouraging those around him. His death came as such a shock to us all – outwardly he appeared his normal self, looking forward to his next holiday. This has shown to us that we need to reinforce the fact that it is okay to talk as we would all rather give a shoulder to cry on than to be left with the sadness that grief delivers.

This challenge is about so much more than the 13.1 miles. Every step we take is for Finlay to honour his life; remember the joy he brought to so many people and help ensure that other families don’t have to experience the heartbreak that we have.

We are running for 2 charities that make a real difference to people’s lives –
The Canmore Trust provides vital suicide prevention and postvention support, helping people experiencing suicidal thoughts, as well as families and communities affected by suicide. Through education, support and raising awareness, they are working to save lives and ensure that no one has to face these struggles alone.

The St. Johnstone Community Trust (Saints in the Community) is a Perth-based charity that used the power of sport to bring people together, improve wellbeing and create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. We believe in the importance of connection, inclusion and community, and know how powerful these can be in supporting mental and physical health.

If you are able to donate, no matter the amount, we would be incredibly grateful.  Thank you for your generosity, your encouragement and helping us to honour Finlay’s memory, raise awareness of suicide prevention and support causes that bring hope and connection to those who need it most.
