Alex Brunt
Run for Richard
1876
My father, Richard Brunt, passed away on 14th October after a short but brave battle with bile duct cancer, also known as Cholangiocarcinoma. It is lesser-known form of liver cancer, but is aggressive, and is the cause of around 3000 deaths per year In England, but this number is increasing.
Dad was a generous, jolly and well-loved character who was honest and hard-working his whole life. He loved playing rugby in his younger days and, more recently, was happiest out in the fields shooting with his dogs. In memory of him, to raise awareness of this terrible disease and to try to raise funds for two fantastic charities (details below), I have decided to run between some of Dad's favourite shooting haunts on Sunday 24th March 2024, which would have been his 75th birthday.
The route will take me from Sudbourne marshes, to Woodbridge Rugby Club (his old club) on to Washbrook, Harkstead, Bucklesham and Capel Hall Farm in Falkenham before finishing at Kirton & Falkenham Village Hall where Dad played many a game of bowls in recent years. In total this is just over 50 miles. I do run and have completed two half marathons in the past; however, 10k is my normal distance so a 50 mile effort will be well out of my comfort zone! The aim is to start around 7am and finish inside around 10 hours.
My sisters, Louise and Harriet, will also be running certain sections with me and my wife, Caroline, will be supporting us by bike.
The AMMF (Alan Morement Memorial Fund), the Cholangiocarcinoma Charity, is continuing to research the disease as well as raising awareness of it and St Elizabeth Hospice were fantastic in caring for Dad in his last few days. We will be supporting both charities with our fundraising and so any support and donations you might be able to give would be so welcome and hugely generous. With a good deal of training ahead, having that little bit extra motivation will help us to make sure we get there.
Many thanks in advance for your support.
