BREAKOUT Day | 27th August 2026
A few months ago, BREAKOUT didn’t exist…

Not because the need wasn’t there, but because for a long time it only existed as an idea in my head.

Over the last few years, I’ve found myself speaking publicly about youth unemployment, opportunity gaps and the growing disconnect so many young people experience when trying to transition into work and adulthood.

I’ve sat on national platforms, spoken in the media and challenged some of the narratives we place on young people every single day.

Because I’ve always believed one thing:
YOUNG PEOPLE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.
THE SYSTEM IS.

Eventually, I reached a point where commentary alone didn’t feel enough anymore.

- I didn’t just want to talk about the problem.
- I wanted to help build something different.

That’s why BREAKOUT exists.
We’re not trying to become another programme or another organisation asking young people to navigate systems that were never truly designed with them in mind. We’re trying to build something more human. A community where young people feel seen, supported and connected to real opportunities, whilst surrounded by people who genuinely believe in them.

I’m incredibly clear that young people and honestly all of us at different points in our lives need somebody in their corner.

- Someone who believes in us
- Someone who backs us
- Someone who helps us see what’s possible when we can’t always see it ourselves.

That belief sits at the heart of everything we do, and it’s exactly why we’re launching BREAKOUT Day.

On Thursday 27th August, supporters, employers, mentors, volunteers and friends of BREAKOUT will come together for our first annual fundraising campaign.

Our flagship challenge will see participants take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge: a demanding 24-mile trek across Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Others will organise their own challenge, make a donation or simply help us spread the word.

Because BREAKOUT Day has never really been about climbing mountains.
It’s about showing up.

Every day, young people are navigating uphill journeys of their own, often without the confidence, networks, opportunities or support that many others take for granted. We can’t solve every challenge overnight, but we can build a community that refuses to stand on the sidelines.

Since launching BREAKOUT, one thing has become abundantly clear.
The demand is there.

In fact, it’s already beginning to outweigh our capacity.

What started as an idea has quickly become a growing movement, with referrals, employer interest, mentoring enquiries and partnership opportunities arriving far quicker than I ever imagined.

That’s an incredible position to be in, but it also brings a responsibility.

I don’t want BREAKOUT to become another organisation that grows so quickly it loses the human connection that makes it different.

I want us to grow intentionally.
That’s exactly why BREAKOUT Day matters.

Every pound raised will help us continue delivering Future Focus, mentoring, employer partnerships and opportunities for young people, whilst taking the next step in BREAKOUT’s journey.

One of our immediate ambitions is to create our first dedicated role for a local young person.
For me, there’s something incredibly powerful about that.
Imagine launching an organisation to create opportunities for young people… and one of the very first opportunities it creates is employment for a young person within BREAKOUT itself.

That feels like the kind of organisation we’re trying to build.
Whether you decide to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, organise your own fundraiser, make a donation or simply help us raise awareness, you’re becoming part of that story.

You’re helping us prove that things can be done differently, that communities still care and that young people deserve more than being left to navigate increasingly fragile pathways on their own.

Most importantly, you’re helping ensure more young people have somebody in their corner.

If you’d like to get involved in BREAKOUT Day, simply complete the contact form on our website and a member of the team will be in touch.

Thank you for believing in what we’re building.
We’re only just getting started.
We are #BuiltDifferentByDesign

Roman
Founder - BREAKOUT

———-
BREAKOUT is currently incubated within The Gift Academy / Grace Incorporation Faith Trust (GIFT), a registered charity.

All donations made through this platform are ring-fenced exclusively to support BREAKOUT’s work with young people, including programme delivery, mentoring and progression support.

https://www.breakoutcharity.co.uk
