The Lord Mayor of Leicester’s Charity Support for 2026-2027 - The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Kulwinder Singh Johal

MIDLAND LANGAR SEVA SOCIETY (MLSS)MLSS is a Leicester-based charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and families, regardless of race, religion, or background. Founded in 2013 in the West Midlands, it began by providing 50 hot meals per week to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. Serving those in need since 2015 in Leicester, the charity has grown significantly and now delivers over 150,000 hot meals each month across the UK, alongside essential support including food parcels, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency aid.Their mission is to create a world where everyone has access to basic human necessities such as food, water, warm clothing, and shelter. The values of “Langar” — a free community kitchen serving all and “Seva” — selfless service — are at the heart of everything they do. In Leicester, MLSS regularly serves free hot meals at St Peter’s Church and outside St Margaret’s Church, supporting over 500 people each week. As one of the chosen charities for 2026–2027, MLSS is honoured to continue its work in serving communities, tackling food poverty, and spreading
compassion by serving humanity.

Leicester Hospitals Charity, the official charity of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, works closely with communities to enhance care and improve health outcomes across our hospitals by funding projects that go beyond what the NHS alone can provide. From improving patient experience and supporting staff wellbeing, to enabling research and innovation, the Charity’s work has a real and lasting impact on people across Leicester and beyond. The Lord Mayor is particularly keen to support the Charity in enabling projects that improve long-term health outcomes, including prevention, early diagnostics and research in areas such as diabetes and kidney health, to make a meaningful difference for future generations.
