Ricky’s ultimate three peaks challenge

Hi,

My name is Ricky and I’m fundraising for two charities that have recently helped me and my son Albie.

On the 20th of March we received the horrible news that my 5 year old son Albie had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. As you will understand this was a life changing situation to be put in.

Albie is being treated by the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at the Great North Children’s Hospital. They have all been absolutely incredible, their compassion and professionalism has been a great source of comfort as we watch and support Albie through his chemotherapy.

Young lives Vs cancer have been fantastic with their help, this has been provided by Jenny Gibbs who I cannot thank enough for her support during this incredibly stressful time. Not only to myself but to all the parents who we see on ward 14 & 4. Her kindness has been a huge source of comfort in the recent months. I know that young lives vs cancer have helped countless people during their cancer journeys. They provide social, financial and emotional support to people who are going through cancer treatment. How valuable this is cannot be understated!

Cyclists fighting cancer is a charity that provides bikes, trikes, specially adapted bikes and training bikes to children who are fighting cancer. This encourages health and fitness which is essential to children as they recover. I applied for a new bike for Albie and within a week they had reviewed and accepted his application, his new bike was delivered to my local cycle shop and Albie loves it. We’re excited to get him out on it more once he is past the consolidation portion of his treatment!
This service is absolutely fantastic considering how expensive life becomes when dealing with Cancer.

My plan is to complete the ultimate three peaks challenge, starting on September the 7th and over the course of 6 days, I will be climbing the three tallest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Yr Wyddfa - Snowdon). Whilst cycling in between them, this is roughly 450 miles of cycling.

I am hoping to raise £5000 towards my two chosen charities, I understand this is an ambitious amount but I’m optimistic that with your generosity, this can be achieved.

Thank you for looking at my page. Cancer is a heartless disease that has changed my life forever.

This is my opportunity to give back to the people who have given so much to families around the country facing this awful disease!

I want to thank the company I work for for sending me out 2 x £250 cheques for both charities!

I would also like to thank everyone who has donated this far. I’ve been overwhelmed with the generosity!
