The 22/22 Moonshot Cycle Challenge
16056
In August 2025, I heard the words none of us ever want to hear: ‘You have cancer.’
In my case, it was Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer.
I had never heard of it; in my ignorance, I just thought there was ...... just breast cancer, who knew there were different types!
I quickly learned that there is no specific targeted treatment, as even the basic biology is unknown as it's never been fully researched.
So we are given the standard treatment in the hope it will work, but it doesn't always, and women are dying every year because of it.
This has to stop; research is needed, and the government keeps coming up with excuses regarding funding the five-year programme costing 20 million pounds, so whilst I was home recovering from my surgery and radiotherapy, I set out thinking what I could do as a fundraiser for this vital research.
Those of you who know me will know I have completed several other cycle challenges that you have kindly supported me on, so once again I am asking if you are able to donate; please do, as every donation helps. If you are not able to, then could you please share my page and spread the word about Lobular Breast Cancer?
It's known as the sneaky one as it doesn't usually form lumps; instead, it spreads in lines similar to a spider’s web and is often missed on mammograms and scans!
Often, women are diagnosed at a later stage because of this, and many have had clear mammograms!
So please check yourself, and if you notice anything that isn't normal for you, get it checked out with your GP.
That's how I discovered mine, so thankfully it was caught early at only 12mm and had not spread to my lymph nodes.
Onto the challenge itself, and I must be mad as currently my fitness is nowhere near what it used to be, and treatment has literally zapped me!
I plan to cycle 22 kilometres a day for 22 consecutive days starting on August 1st and finishing on August 22nd.
Why…because in the UK alone, 22 women a day are diagnosed with this disease. By the time I have completed this challenge another 484 women in the UK will have heard those terrifying words.....you have Lobular Breast Cancer!
This ride is personal.
This ride is emotional.
This ride is for all of us..... x
I'm riding for them.
For the women still fighting.
For the women we've lost.
For the women who don't even know yet that this challenge is coming.
All funds raised will be equally split between Lobular Cancer UK and the Lobular Moonshot Project, who already have doctors at Manchester University ready to start this research once funding is secured.
Thank you for taking the time to read, Sharron xx
