Helen in Wonderland is running the London Marathon!
1485
I'm running the London Marathon on 21st April 2024. After all these years, I finally got a ballot place! I haven't completed a marathon since early 2016 so this will definitely be a challenge.
I've chosen to fundraise for two charities, The Samaritans and Booktrust. Monies raised will be split equally between the two charities.
I've chosen The Samaritans as they offer support to those in emotional distress, in some cases, saving lives. Many are struggling with their mental health, and on average take a call every 10 seconds, from someone in need of support. They listen, they don't judge, and they help you to work through what's on your mind. It's not a secret that I have struggled with my mental health at times.
The second charity I've chosen to support is Booktrust, a charity dedicated to getting children reading. As the owner of Wonderland Bookshop, I know that not every child has access to books. Booktrust offer schemes such as Bookstart, which gives a free book pack to every baby born in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Booktrust work to inspire a love of reading, and as a personal believer that books can change lives, and help us through difficult times, I wanted to fundraise to enable them to continue their work.
