26 Miles for Scouts and Young Lives vs Cancer — Virtual London Marathon 2026
13132
Since 2021, I’ve taken on the challenge of running the virtual London Marathon each year. It’s the full 26 miles — just without the crowds, the closed roads, or the cheering. Just me, my thoughts, and a very long way to go.
(Full honesty: in 2023 I walked it. Let’s agree that still counts.)
This year, the run once again coincides with our local St. George’s Day scout event, so I’ve decided to make that my finish line. Having a real destination — and real people — waiting at the end should make those final miles a bit more meaningful.
I’m also using this as an opportunity to raise money, with funds split 50/50 between two great causes:
Supporting our scouts’ upcoming trip to Slovenia — an amazing opportunity for adventure, independence, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Supporting Young Lives vs Cancer — a wonderful charity that helps children and young people facing cancer, and their families, navigate unimaginably difficult journeys.
The charity was chosen through suggestions and a vote from our scouts, which makes supporting it feel even more special.
I normally keep this slightly ridiculous annual challenge to myself, so publicly fundraising adds a whole new level of motivation (and mild regret).
If you’re able to donate, thank you — every contribution will help make a real difference, both in creating positive life experiences for young people, and in supporting families who truly need it.
And if nothing else, your support will help carry me through 26 long miles.
