About Whizz-Kidz

Our vision is a society in which every young wheelchair user is mobile, enabled and included.

Our purpose is to empower young wheelchair users by providing the wheelchairs, equipment, support and confidence-building experiences they need, and campaigning for a more inclusive society.

Why does Whizz-Kidz exist? What are the problems we are here to address?

- An estimated 75,000 young people in the UK need a wheelchair to be mobile.
- Most young people aren’t getting a wheelchair that fully meets their needs through their local services.
- For a young person, having the wrong wheelchair can lead to dependence on others, social isolation, poor mental health, pain and injury.
- Without the ability to be independent young wheelchair users are restricted in their ability to socialise and participate in society.

Whizz-Kidz is focused on raising awareness of the importance of mobility for young wheelchair users. In order to campaign effectively we sometimes produce, and commission, reports that highlight the importance of the right wheelchair – and its impact on children and their families.

Our Impact Report for 2020, our 30th anniversary year, shares the stories, the people, the partnerships, the numbers and the challenges that made up our year.

£22

Could pay for a young wheelchair user’s introduction to attend their local Whizz-Kidz club. There they can enjoy activities which give them a chance to gain skills and confidence and make new friends.

£30

Could pay for the PPE equipment we need to deliver life-changing wheelchairs safely to six young people.

£47

Could help pay for a Whizz-Kidz Mobility Engineer, so we can tailor each child’s wheelchair to their own individual needs.
