Strachur Community Shed

We are creating a space that young and old can meet to improve mental health and to pass along trade skills and to help out with any repairs that we can assist with for a charitable donation such like bike repairs, sewing machine repairs or make park benches

Strachur Community Shed
We are set up in Strachur, on the banks of Loch Fyne, 18 miles from Dunoon and approximately 60 miles from Glasgow. Strachur Community Shed is part of a larger organisation originally known as the Men’s Shed, which was set up to promote social interaction with others and to promote good mental health. The Shed is a place to meet and also a place to carry out and improve a variety of skills, such as carpentry, car maintenance and many other activities. Within the village the skill mix is there to share with others and all are welcome.
Our Shed has recently been set up and we are currently fundraising for a purpose built unit constructed within the centre of the village. We have the plans designed and the outline approval from the Planning department of Argyll and Bute Council. The final drawings have been submitted.
We are seeking funds to help with the build and are exploring all avenues in order to collect the funding to make this new unit happen. We have had Christmas sales of home made goods such as ornaments, bird boxes, wooden Christmas decorations, baking, locally harvested and bottled honey by one of our trustee members and a variety of other crafts. We are also seeking donations and sponsorship from larger organisations to make this a success.

Your Impact

As we live in a fairly widespread area with some locations somewhat isolated and with an ageing population, we have a significant number of locals who will benefit from reduced isolation and vulnerability - somewhere they can meet up in a safe environment. The Shed will allow everyone to pop in for a chat, make connections or learn a new skill.
