We are a CIC looking to get people in the community, particular older and vulnerable people, moving via strength and balance classes.
Step Forward With Lewis CIC offers strength and balance classes to older and more vulnerable people in the Northamptonshire area, and beyond.
Our founder, Michelle Lewis, is fully trained in providing strength and balance sessions, and has seen incredible results with clients in recent years. Our programme provides strength and balance sessions for older and frailer adults, as well as those with pre-existing conditions or who may be vulnerable to falls.
Michelle is a qualified OTAGO instructor. As such, she can teach later life training to allow older people to avoid falls, maintain good health and remain independent.
Clinical trials have shown that with the Otago programme, the number of falls in older people is reduced, and injuries from those falls is also reduced. The programme has the greatest effect in high-risk groups: those aged over 80 years or who've had a previous fall.
As well as having a positive impact on those who attend classes, our work eases pressure on the health service as people are having less falls and attending their GP/A&E less often.
We believe in building community, encouraging clients to come for a coffee after sessions, facilitating friendships, building community, and even putting on Christmas Lunch.
Our CIC improves the lives of those people who attend our classes, increasing their levels of independence, confidence and ability to carry out vital everyday tasks for longer.
Although we work with people of all ages, those attending our classes tend to be older or more vulnerable, often with conditions such as dementia, heart problems, cancer or Parkinson's.
