1 in 1,000 children born in the UK develop liver disease. But advances in diagnosis, drug therapies, molecular genetics, and transplantation mean we can save the lives of children with liver disease, and those requiring intestinal transplantation.There are only three transplant centres in the UK so children travel long distances for treatment. This can be expensive and disruptive for families. SPLIT helps families who might struggle during this time. SPLIT supports children and young people with liver disease, liver and/or intestinal transplantation and their families through:✔ Financial support for families and crisis grants. ✔ Information on organ donation and liver/intestinal disease and transplantation, for families, professionals, and the public. ✔ Research and education into the causes of liver/intestinal and transplantation, and treatments.
