Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) is the charity established and funded by the UK Government to promote and support Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) in the UK.

Since 2001, we’ve held a national commemorative ceremony on Holocaust Memorial Day (27 January) to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under the Nazi persecution of other groups and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. Our activities aim to encourage people to learn lessons from the past and take steps to challenge hatred and persecution.

Your Impact

HMD 2025 was marked through the screening of a national commemorative ceremony on BBC One attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Prime Minister, dignitaries and survivors and their families. The ceremony has been viewed by more than two million people. Thousands of organisations ranging from schools to prisons and workplaces held events to mark HMD. Over four million people saw our national digital billboard campaign for Holocaust Memorial Day, cinema adverts were screened at 400 cinemas reaching half a million people and hundreds of iconic buildings across the UK were illuminated with purple lights.

This wide-ranging activity ensures that we achieve the five goals which guide our organisation. With reflections on HMD across the UK, HMD 2025 projects and more, this publication explores how thousands of organisations and individuals marked HMD 2025.

We are governed by a Board of Trustees, which is made up of a diverse range of individuals and organisations. Our trustees set the strategic vision and have responsibility for the governance of the charity. We are privileged that His Majesty The King is Patron of HMDT.
