About Girls in Sport

Tags:

Girls in Sport provides equality of access to safe spaces through sport for girls at risk or affected by harms including gender based violence, and discrimination. We work in highly volatile settings in post conflict and under-developed regions in Africa sub-Sahara.

Your Impact

Since 2016, we have supported more than 2,000 girls in some of Sierra Leone’s most remote, underserved, and high-risk communities.
Many of the girls we work with live with the long-term effects of intergenerational trauma linked to the civil war, the “blood diamond” era, the Ebola crisis, and entrenched extreme poverty.
By providing equal access to sport within safe, girl-centred spaces, delivered by trained coaches and positive female role models equipped in safeguarding and psycho-social support, we use sport as a powerful tool for healing, confidence-building, and empowerment.
Combined with educational sponsorship and literacy support, this holistic approach enables girls to stay in school, develop resilience and leadership skills, and achieve stronger learning and life outcomes — transforming opportunities in contexts where being born a girl too often determines a lifetime of disadvantage.
