We offer a Helpline open to callers, which is open 24/7, allowing us to help anyone in need, whenever they need it. We help and support anyone concerned about the problems that drugs, alcohol or mental well-being cause. We support those with problems or their parents, siblings or friends. In addition, for residents within the Surrey County Council area, we can refer you directly to professional treatment services for drugs or alcohol.

SDAC has a Telephone Counselling Service (TCS), which is a professional team of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Registered Counsellors. The service is free of charge. A new service, Telephone Bootcamp, is available for intensive treatment of drug and alcohol

On average, SDAC takes between 1,000 – 1,500 calls to its Helpline each year, a majority being from the Surrey area, but in practice, SDAC is open to anyone, anywhere in the country.

SDAC is a charity and limited company managed by a Board of Trustees and Associate Directors. The Helpline is manned by fully trained volunteers. The funding received by SDAC covers the costs of Trainers, a Helpline Coordinator, TCS, Outreach expenses and Marketing and Publicity for the charity and its service.

Your Impact

This year saw a significant step forward for SDAC as we returned to 24/7 helpline coverage, restoring a level of access that has always been central to our values and vision. While the helpline previously operated on a 24/7 basis, limited resources in recent years meant we had to reduce our opening hours. In 2024/25, we were proud to reinstate full round-the-clock availability by partnering with an out-of-hours call handling service, allowing us to ensure no call goes unanswered, regardless of the time of day.
We supported over 500 individuals through our Telephone Counselling Service, providing over 7,000 therapeutic sessions. This remarkable volume of care highlights both the scale of need and the efficacy of our approach. Alongside this, our specialist programmes saw significant expansion, including the impactful People on Probation Project and our dedicated groups for those affected by Drug-Related Deaths and Non-Fatal Overdoses.
