What Is the Boulder Challenge?
Every day in the UK, 18 lives are lost to suicide. That’s 126 people every single week. Behind every number is a name. A face. A family. A future that never got to unfold.
The Boulder Challenge is a physical and emotional endurance test designed to carry the weight of that loss—literally.
From 7th to 13th September 2025, two men will drag a 100kg boulder across 126km of sand along the Welsh coastline. That’s 18km a day for 7 days. One kilometre for every life lost in a single day. The terrain is brutal. The weight is unforgiving. The distance is real.
But this isn’t just a challenge.It’s a message.A statement.A wake-up call.
There’s no finish line prize. No medals. No rest days. Just two men pulling a burden that far too many people carry in silence. Every step represents a struggle. Every pull, a story. And every mile is a tribute to someone who should still be here.
The challenge is a call for awareness—but more than that, it’s about action. It’s about breaking the stigma around mental health, encouraging open conversations, and showing that strength looks like reaching out, speaking up, and showing up.
We’re partnering with leading mental health charities Shout, and Suicide&Co., raising funds to support their life-saving work and inviting the public to walk part of the journey—whether that’s online, in person, or by simply sharing the message.
The boulder is a symbol. Of grief. Of pressure. Of everything we’re told to carry alone. But this time, we carry it together.

Shout is the UK's first and only free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging service for anyone who is struggling to cope. As a digital service, Shout became vital during Covid-19, as one of the few mental health services able to operate as normal at this time. We have seen the need for our support remain high through the UK's cost of living crisis.
