The charities
We have chosen to use the givewheel platform for donations rather than justgiving as it allows us to raise money for a variety of different charities all of which have helped Paddy in their own small way. We are keen that the Pedal4Paddy event is an event that raises money for the fight against all different types of Cancer. Everybody has their own connected story. Seemingly everybody has watched a close friend or relative suffer. We hope that Pedal4Paddy will be a joyous community event that raises money in Paddy's name for the fight against Cancer.
Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the largest cancer research organisation in the world outside the USA. They fund research on all aspects of cancer from its causes to prevention and treatment.
The protocols for the treatment of Leukaemia seemingly change every year. 30 years ago the death rate was significantly higher. We have been on the ALL together trial. By taking part in trials funded in part by Cancer Research Paddy’s treatment has been so much better than it might have been even a year ago. The maintenance period for boys now lasts for 2 years rather than 3 years and monthly steroids have been removed from the maintenance protocols.
Leukaemia Care
Leukaemia Care is a national blood cancer support charity, committed to ensuring that anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. It provides a range of support services to patients and their carers, including information, support groups, patient and carer conferences, and nurse education days.
Leukaemia Care have supported us a lot. They have always been on the end of the phone and have given us some excellent advice as well as funding counselling.
Cyclists fighting Cancer
On Christmas day Cyclists fighting Cancer delivered a magnificent trike. Paddy had been immobile for 4 months and this massively helped improve his mobility and get him out and about, doing wonders for his mental health. We very much hope that the family behind the charity will be joining us for Pedal4Paddy.
