Hello all,
We’re taking on quite a journey—pedalling 15,000 miles home to the UK—to raise money for two charities that mean the world to us: the MND Association and the Brain Tumour Charity.
————————————————————
The Challenge
Starting in Adelaide, we’ll initially ride east towards Melbourne before heading north along Australia’s east coast to Cairns. From there, our adventure continues in Southeast Asia, cycling from Singapore through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
Next, we’ll fly over Myanmar and China into Kyrgyzstan, where we aim to ride the second-highest paved road in the world into Tajikistan. From there, we’ll cross Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, then fly over the Caspian Sea into Georgia.
Finally, we’ll head west through Turkey and across Europe—all the way back home. In total, when trying to take the scenic route, we’re aiming to cycle 15,000 miles - a little further than the journey our plane took to Australia…
Why We’re Riding
We’re doing this for two causes incredibly close to our hearts.
In Jeremy’s words…
In 2017, my parents were diagnosed with two cruel terminal illnesses.
My mum, Clare, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Within months, she lost the ability to walk, move her arms, hold her head up, eat, drink, or even speak.
That same year, my dad, Giles, was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain tumour. The illness caused progressive weakness, seizures, and significant changes in his behaviour.
Despite everything, they both remained the most loving, selfless, and compassionate parents and friends anyone could imagine.
Tragically, we lost them just seven months apart in 2018–2019.
Why These Charities
The MND Association and the Brain Tumour Charity lead vital research and provide incredible support to families facing these devastating diseases. No one should have to suffer like my parents did and these charities are on the forefront of finding treatment.
We hope to raise awareness for the conditions and hopefully some funds for them along the way.
