Thanks for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK with 1 woman diagnosed every 10 minutes. Last year both Debbie and I were in that unfortunate position, but wanted to create a positive from our situation so ran our first afternoon tea raising £12,000 for Breast Cancer Now, a charity who continues to support us.
This year, Debbie and I wanted to run another event to raise some further funds for this worthy charity but also for the Cavell Unit (Chemotherapy unit) at Dewsbury Hospital which desperately needs funding to improve facilities for patients to make it a much more welcoming place.
Please come along to our event on the 19th July, from 12.00pm-4.00 at Christ Church South Ossett. It would be great to see you but if you are unable to attend then you can still help by donating to two worthwhile causes.
Join us for a fun and delicious charity event raising money for Breast Cancer Now and MY Hospital Charity! Indulge in a variety of scrumptious cakes and bubbly Prosecco while supporting a great cause. There will also be a plant and book sale, as well as a raffle.
All proceeds will go towards funding vital research and support services for those affected by breast cancer as well as some much needed improvements to the Cavell unit where Debbie went through treatment last year, and I’m currently receiving weekly treatment which is ongoing. We are determined to see meaningful improvements at the facilities at the Cavell Unit during our lifetime, to support the work of the wonderful nurses who support so many patients at the most difficult time in their lives.
Your sweet tooth and charitable spirit will come together for a truly special afternoon. Don't miss out - let us know you are attending, share and invite your friends and family and help make a difference in the fight against breast cancer!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts (and boobs!), this means the world to us and our families and friends 🩷
Sarah’s story - As some of you know, my cancer returned this year (2024), sneaking back in my lymph nodes and lungs. 30% of all women initially diagnosed progress to secondary, terminal breast cancer with 11,500 women and 80 men dying of the disease each year. It’s the leading cause of death in women under 50 in the UK. Breast cancer is not pink and fluffy. It is not a free boob job or the sale of pinkified cosmetics in October. Having a diagnosis is not brave, it simply has to be dealt with, there is no opting out. This is the truth about breast cancer.
There is no returning back to normal for me, or my lovely family. I’m not writing this to be negative as I am actually feeling really super positive about my treatment plan. I’m not writing this to scare anyone. There is one choice I have in this diagnosis…how I choose to respond to it. I want to make something better from this experience. Without an understanding of the truth about not just breast cancer, but all cancers, how can things change? How can things become better for everyone who has or will be diagnosed…statistically that’s half of you reading this post. If we think it’s all rosy, that “the battle is being won” and we aren’t aware of the breadth of impacts from cancer on our physical and emotional health, how can we turn the tsunami of cancer diagnoses and demand better treatments? We can all champion for a change that reduces the devastating numbers who are dying, and helps to ensure that we all live well and thrive.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and love to you all ♥️
