Running the Bluetrail Ultra for Man Down Cornwall & Cancer Research UK

Hi!

I’m running the Tenerife Bluetrail Ultra in June to help support 2 great causes – Man Down Cornwall and Cancer Research UK. I hope you can help me.

My oldest friend Ed Bol tragically took his own life in February 2021. Ed had mental health issues and like many others he avoided help, hiding most of his hard times from his family and friends. Ed was always there for others, he helped me through the hardest times in my life but struggled to ask for help when he really needed it.

Man Down is a Cornish-based group offering safe spaces to meet the current emotional and mental health needs of men who are struggling to cope with the everyday pressures facing them in our modern society. They offer a very informal, safe, and relaxed environment for men of all ages who are struggling with any kind of mental health issues.

2023 marks 10 years since my dad Mark died of cancer shortly after his 60th birthday. Cancer is a cruel illness that causes so much pain to those suffering from it and their family and friends. Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information. Their ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034, but this will only be possible through the generosity of donations to fund its life-saving research and it needs support more now than ever.

I miss both of these men in my life and often think of them whilst I’m running. We can’t bring Ed or Mark back, but together, we can make a difference to others by supporting Man Down and Cancer Research UK.

The race..
The Tenerife Bluetrail Ultra has a unique reputation and is one of the few in the globe that allows participants to run from near sea level to an elevation of over 3,500 meters and back, traversing Tenerife from south to north. The combination of distance (102 km/63.3 miles), climbing (around 18,000ft), running at altitude and the temperature will make it an epic challenge.

Closer to the event I will share tracking information for the race. On the day (it starts at midnight!) I will give it everything I have.

Thank you in advance for your donation, every little bit helps and is really appreciated.

Dave
