On the 6th of October 2016 our world fell apart when Phil, our much loved husband and dad, lost his fight for life in the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit (CTCCU) at Wythenshawe hospital where he had spent eight days in a coma after suffering a heart attack and cardiac arrest aged just 43.
Phil left for work as normal just after 6am on the 28th of September 2016 and never returned home. His work colleagues knew something was wrong and took him to Macclesfield A&E, where he walked in and booked himself in. During triage it was clear he was having a heart attack and arrangements were made to transfer him to Wythenshawe hospital, where they specialise in cardiothoracic surgery.
The North West Ambulance Service paramedics and staff that supported him on transfer were amazing after he suffered the cardiac arrest resulting in his heart being stopped for around 40 minutes.
Then the staff from the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit at Wythenshawe hospital were outstanding, not just with the care they provided to Phil, but also the support they gave to us as a family.
With 2026 being the 10 year anniversary we have decided to raise funds to show our appreciation for the incredible care throughout that time.
In addition to the CTCCU at Wythenshawe Hospital and the North West Ambulance Service, we will also be raising funds for two further charities that have supported us as a family.
CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research and WAY (Widowed and Young) a peer-to-peer support group for people aged 50 or under when their partner died.
We will be carrying out various fundraising events in order to reach an initial target of £5000, then marking the 10 year anniversary with a black tie charity event.
Some of the fundraising events we will be completing are listed below and we would appreciate any other ideas or events anyone would like to contribute:• The Yorkshire three peaks challenge• Running a marathon• A golf day• The Great North swim• The National three peaks challenge• Finishing off with a Black tie charity event
Further details of all events will be added to this page in due course and please do get in touch if you fancy joining in, the more the merrier.
Huge thanks from Lindsay, Christopher and Charlie for your support.
