PLYMOUTH RNLI LIFEBOAT STATIONA busy station based in the Old Custom House at Millbay Marina Village, Plymouth Lifeboat Station has two lifeboats, an all-weather Severn class lifeboat and an Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat.
Plymouth was one of the first places on the coast of Great Britain to have a lifeboat. This was one of the 31 boats built by Henry Greathead of South Shields, the builder of the first lifeboat on our coasts, which was stationed at South Shields in 1789. The first Plymouth boat was stationed there in 1803. She was a gift to Plymouth from Philip Langmead MP.
The volunteer crew launched 160 times on service in 2024.
THE ISLAND TRUSTBased at Plymouth Yacht Haven, The Island Trust provide life-enhancing, residential and day sailing activities for young people with educational support needs, disabilities, and those experiencing hardship and deprivation. These trips take place onboard one of their three traditional working boats - Moosk, Pegasus and Johanna Lucretia.
For over 50 years, the Trust have strived to address the inequalities in access to the benefits of sailing, determined that financial and social barriers to participation should be removed.
ST LUKE'S HOSPICE PLYMOUTHSt Luke’s Hospice Plymouth is an independent charity providing specialist care and support to people with progressive life-limiting illnesses in Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall.
The Hospice cares for over 300 patients and their families at any given time. This specialist care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, social workers and occupational therapists to patients and their families at home and or at a specialist unit at Mount Batten, Plymouth.
