PLYMOUTH RNLI LIFEBOAT STATION
A busy station based in the Old Custom House at Millbay Marina Village, Plymouth Lifeboat Station has two lifeboats, an all-weather Severn class lifeboat and an Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat.

Plymouth was one of the first places on the coast of Great Britain to have a lifeboat. This was one of the 31 boats built by Henry Greathead of South Shields, the builder of the first lifeboat on our coasts, which was stationed at South Shields in 1789. The first Plymouth boat was stationed there in 1803. She was a gift to Plymouth from Philip Langmead MP.

The volunteer crew launched 160 times on service in 2024.

Based at Plymouth Yacht Haven, The Island Trust provide life-enhancing, residential and day sailing activities for young people with educational support needs, disabilities, and those experiencing hardship and deprivation. These trips take place onboard one of their three traditional working boats - Moosk, Pegasus and Johanna Lucretia.

For over 50 years, the Trust have strived to address the inequalities in access to the benefits of sailing, determined that financial and social barriers to participation should be removed.
