Luke and Roy's 300km Pub Crawl!
A 300km PUB CRAWL... Or is it?!
6670
This seemed like an opportunity not to be missed... a 300km pub crawl with your mate you say? It's actually called The Northern Traverse, a 300km adventure across the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors to cross Britain West to East. Times ranging from 44.5hrs to 5days. We will be walking it with a couple of rules... make the cut offs and if the pub is open, a pint must be consumed.
THE CHARITIES
ROY - PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH
I believe in doing something challenging every year (sometimes more than once). However, I have a very real feeling that this year I’ve bitten off a little too much (again). With only Luke Elliott for company, what could go wrong 🤔🤷♂
I can’t make a plea on behalf of myself as I’m very fortunate. I’m physically and mentally well, and have already lived a wonderful life where I’ve worked with some amazing people, and have travelled and lived in some fantastic locations.
However, I work with, for and alongside those who aren’t always that fortunate. Like many of us, I’ve lost close friends and family to cancer, and have been truly humbled by the care and support shown by palliative care staff. Having lost my grandfather to Prostate cancer and with this being the biggest cancer risk to men, with one in eight men expected to get it once in their life, anything we can do to reduce this risk is a good thing, and I’m more than happy to suffer a little discomfort if that means you kind folk will give a few pounds to this great cause.
LUKE - ALZHEIMER'S RESEARCH UK
When your Granny and Grandma are diagnosed with Alzheimer's, you quickly realise there is very little you can practically do. So in 2014 I started raising money for an Alzheimer's related charity annually. Initially myself and then making it a part of Plymouth Coastal Runners annual fundraiser. Granny passed in 2021 and Grandma passed a few weeks ago on the 25th February 2025. The fundraising will however continue as having to see how this disease deteriorates one's mind over time is nothing short of horrific and I consider the fundraising, doing my bit to fighting it! Given the hand I personally have been dealt in recent years I feel a 5day, 300km walk seems enough to warrant you lot wanting to throw a couple of quid our way!
THE TARGET... INITIALLY £1500...
We see this as achievable. Especially as if we do, we'll both get our heads shaved to sweeten the deal. Luke's mop has been growing for four years now (to the month - April) and is more than long enough to be sent to The Little Princess Trust. It will go towards a wig for kids/young people going through cancer and other diseases causing hair loss. Cancer took Luke's cousin, Emma last year making this even more relevant than it was last time he grew his hair for the cause.
THE £2000 TARGET...
As Luke marshalled to earn his place in the race rather than pay for it, should we beat £2000 as well as his hair, he'll personally donate an additional £250 to the Little Princess Trust.
