Hey guys thanks for checking out my fundraising page.
For my next endurance event I will be doing the Marathon Des Sables (marathon of the sands) - one of the so called hardest foot races in the world. This will involve running 250km (nearly 6 marathons) across the worlds largest hot desert - The Sahara.
There will be sand dunes, high temperatures and sand storms to contend with and participants need to carry all food, clothes and sleeping equipment during the race (gonna miss a good meal and yorkshire tea).
I have followed the event now for a few years and what started off as a slight pondering has turned into a strong ambition to compete in the event in what will be very challenging conditions.
I will be raising money for 3 charities - Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund, Save the Children and Homerton Hope and money will be split equally between all 3 of them. All of them are great charities doing amazing work.
I will also be running in memory of a special friend Freya, who's life was cut short due to leukaemia (and spent part of her treatment on Birch Ward in Plymouth where we went to University) and who was a much stronger endurance athlete than myself and helped get me to the end of a particularly difficult hike when we were in Ghana many years ago. She had an amazing energy for life - and so I make the most of mine in her name and I know she would approve of this bonkers challenge and will be watching over and pushing me on when times get hard.
All costs involved in taking part in the event and travel will be funded by myself so all money raised will be going to the charities.
I am very grateful for your support in what is going to be an amazing/interesting/difficult/fun challenge.
Many thanks,
Chris.

Although Homerton is funded by the NHS, the Homerton Hope charity allows us to raise funds over and above NHS provision, to further enhance our services and make our patients' experience even better. Funds raised by Homerton Hope help to pay for additional equipment, research and innovations, as well as finishing touches and 'extras' that complement the existing high quality care for patients.
