Please support the fundraising of this special event which is in aid of 3 personally chosen charities, and to celebrate my 5 Year Remission (from my 3rd cancer diagnosis)... After a hugely successful outcome of raising over £10,000 for my first gala, my aim is to create another fantastic night of live performances and entertainment with a stage full of incredible professional performers!! The event purpose is to raise money for 3 chosen charities that have given me light and supported me during my own life challenges… I will be fundraising for Beads of Courage UK, Willow Foundation and When You Wish Upon A Star who all provide support, empowerment and special moments to children, young people and adults facing life threatening conditions.
Donations of any size are hugely appreciated and will make an amazing impact in the overall grand total that will be split and sent directly to the charities via this donation page. The event is a celebration of my remission milestone, and end of my 5th diagnosis recovery, with an evening of life performances which will be a night to remember... but most importantly, to raise money and make a difference to others who are facing 'life with the ribbon'.
The Story behind the event...
My name is Kimberley Hattersley-Barton, I’m 27 years old and live in Wakefield.
At only 13 months old I was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer on my bladder called Rhabdomyosarcoma. Unfortunately, at the age of 18, I was diagnosed and treated for an oral tongue cancer; Squamous cell carcinoma. I was at nearly 4 years remission when I was re-diagnosed during the peak of the COVID pandemic in 2020. From this re-occurrence, my team reviewed me closely and all remained stable in remission until summer 2022 when it was confirmed I had a 4th cancer diagnosis of Papillary Thyroid cancer, for which I underwent a complete removal of my thyroid well as a third neck dissection surgery.
The treatment of multiple surgeries, chemo and radiotherapy for these diagnosis’s have left me with many lifelong late effects; these include kidney, ovarian and heart failure. Not long after producing my first Charity Gala, my health has again presented me with extremely difficult times. In August. 2024 I was faced with the challenge of starting dialysis treatment multiple days a week for my kidney condition; which was originally diagnosed over 20 years ago. Unfortunately in January this year I have had to undergo another major oral tongue surgery after receiving a fifth cancer diagnosis, and the third on my tongue of the Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
During these life changing events, I was very lucky to have been supported and benefitted from the charities that I am aspiring to raise money for... All of these charities do incredible work for all children, young adults and their family members whilst facing cancer battles at any stage. They are key in supporting patients’ wellbeing, decrease illness related distress, increase positive coping strategies and provide opportunities and experiences to support individuals and their families.
Personally, these charities enabled me to cope, process and move forwards after my own diagnosis’s; something that was essential in when going through such life threatening experiences.
With your support, I am hoping to raise vital funds that will enable these charities to continue their essential support to others who are also facing challenges similar to those that I have experienced and overcome.
