2025 will mark 5 years since Hugo's car accident and almost 5 years since the passing of Helen. So to mark this anniversary Ride4Hugo is back with a series of challenges:
- In May, The Highland 550 - one of the hardest MTB races through the Scottish highlands (https://bikepacking.com/routes/highland-trail-550/)
- In August, The Air Base Challenge. This will see Tom criss-cross the UK as he cycle to every air ambulance air base from Aberdeen to Cornwall with a little trip across the Irish Sea to tick off Northern Ireland Air Ambulance. The route is over 4000km, not accounting for the odd wrong turn, with more than 40,000m of elevation (although Koomot always seems to under estimate!!).
- In November. The Chiller 24. This is a race for 24 hours around the beautiful and remote northern trails of Kielder Forest in Northumberland. https://coldbrew.events/xc-mtb/chiller-24/
All of these will self-supported, bike packing on the MTB, trying to take the roads (mainly off-road) less travelled to emphasis the point that the Air Ambulance often goes to places that are not easily accessible.
This is all to raise money for The Air Ambulances Charity, Place 2 Be and HVH Arts.
