Hi
On Sat 31st August 2024, I’m taking part in the Highland Perthshire Challenge, cycling 77km [48miles] in aid of two charities.
The charities are Malawi Fruits, who are organising the cycle event and Diabetes UK. All the money raised will be split equally.
Starting and finishing at Scone airport near Perth. This is a tremendous cycle route through the scenic Perthshire countryside and hopefully the weather will be kind to me!! My target time to complete is under 4.5hours
Your support for these two worthwhile causes would be greatly appreciated and I’ve noted down some highlight information below on both charities.
Thanks for your support
John G
Malawi Fruits is a Scottish Charity committed to working with their partners in Malawi to establish and grow sustainable community businesses in the north of the country.
They aim to provide start-up finance, training and support to agriculture and related community enterprises. Malawi Fruits encourage smallholder farmers to see their smallholding as a business and they provide support and training to help develop these fledgling businesses so they can maximise their income and provide for the education and healthcare needs of their families.
Malawi Fruits work with a three-stage development programme:
Support the farmers to grow a cash crop, often for the first time.
Irrigate the land so the farmer can get two or more crops per year.
Provide crop processing facilities to add value to the crops

Diabetes UK provide first class care and research into diabetes.
With first-hand knowledge of the life changing impact that a diabetes diagnosis brings through affected family members, I’m keen to support the amazing work that Diabetes UK provide.
In the UK alone, in excess of 350,000 people live with Diabetes type1, requiring daily insulin injections. Diabetes UK are at the forefront of research and development of cutting-edge solutions to help those affected people.
Although it’s often diagnosed in childhood, people can develop type1 diabetes at any age. There is currently no cure for type 1 diabetes, but Diabetes UK are funding lots of research to help find new treatments and a cure. Everyone with diabetes is different, so Diabetes UK help tailor solutions and support, on an individual basis, through their website.
