David Scott's Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge to raise awareness on MND
4637
Hi everyone. I’m David Scott who has recently been diagnosed with MND but who is "me".. I'm a Scots man born and bred living in Edinburgh. Here I had the fortune of having my first born, a son Nathan, now a father himself and making me a grandad 15 years ago with the birth of Ava. In my late 20's, I moved to Jersey, where I found work as a my trade a Carpenter and in time met Claire. We had a good few years in Jersey together before making the move back to Scotland. We had a flat in Leith, and then eventually moved to South Queensferry where my second child Megan was born. Megan was very premature and both her and Claire were very poorly in those early days after the birth. We then moved on to Murieston where the final member of our family joined us, my beloved Bruno, a Boxer pup. I enjoyed many walks and holidays with him over the 11 years that we had him. We made great friends in Murieston and have since shared visits and holidays together always keeping in touch. A change in career direction led me to Leicester, We sadly lost Bruno a few years ago and we now have another bundle of fun, a Boxer again called Wilf, who is my 4 legged companion and confidante, sharing many walks and my thoughts as we amble across the nearby fields. I have always had a great love of football and nearly made it as a professional career, however my steadier paced sport is now Golf. Becoming a member of Cosby Golf Club completed my work / life balance having built up a fantastic set of friends who never fail to amaze me with their enduring support both financially and emotionally following my MND diagnose. Since my diagnosis I have been supported from three wonderful charities namely MND Association, LOROS and the Matt Hampson Foundation. Each of the charities offering varied types of support from Acupuncture to Pilates, to Financial and Medical support. This support also extends to my family which is of great benefit, both at the beginning when everything was very overwhelming to now with the constant support of knowledge and understanding. I am trying to raise awareness both for the condition of MND but also for the charities and the work that they do. In April of this year myself and a team of fabulous friends set a challenge to walk up to the top of Ben Nevis. Me being a Scotsmen this was a bucket list tick that I really wanted to achieve. It was a really difficult climb with some adverse weather conditions, but never a quitter we made the summit in 5 hours. We have now set our next challenge for the 5th October 2024 which is the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. This is a 24.5 mile walk with a total 1585m ascent. We currently have a 40 plus strong team all ready to take on the challenge and raise much needed funds for the three named charities.
