On October 19th I will be taking part in the Cascais Ironman 70.3 which entails a 1900m swim, followed by a 90km cycle and then finished off with a half-marathon. I will be raising money for two very important charities, The Royal Marines Charity and 4Ed.
The Royal Marines Charity is one very close to home and one that does a lot of fantastic work for those who have served and are currently serving. My brother, Olly, is a Royal Marine and has seen firsthand the importance of the role the charity plays in supporting the entire Royal Marines family. It is as important as ever that we continue to look after those who have served our country as well as the families of those who have fallen.
In the charity's own words: "We are the Royal Marines’ own Charity and Association, uniquely placed to understand, respond and react by offering lifelong support, helping to enable Marines and their families overcome many of the challenges they face – from life-changing injury or limiting illness and mental health issues to transition to civilian life, and even poverty. We can target support to ensure no one is left behind."
The second charity is 4Ed, which is underneath the Gloucester Rugby Charitable Foundation. This charity is very important to myself and Honor's family. The charity supports people with MND and their families in Gloucestershire.
In their own words: "The primary outcome of the 4Ed campaign is to support individuals and families in Gloucestershire who are living with the effects of MND and the financial pressures it brings. We achieve this by offering bursaries that can be used to fund vital equipment, changes to the home, family days out or anything that will support families with mitigating the effects of MND."
