Quick update: We will now be running on the 6th of January as Sam injured himself training in early December.
We are going to run 30 miles across the Mendips following the West Mendip Way. This includes over 1,500 meters assent and probably a lot of mud and cows.
We are racing money for three charities: Antony Nolan, Diabetes UK & Alzheimer's/Dementia support.
Here is a little bit about the chosen charities:
Sam.
- Diabetes UK is an incredibly personal cause for me. With my late Grandad, Sister and myself all being type 1, This is a disease that has had a funny effect on me, to be honest I probably would not be doing this if it wasn't for my diagnosis. In 2019 I returned home from traveling with Freddie in the worst physical state I could ever imagine, loosing 15kg over the two weeks prior. I ended up in hospital two days later with three drips in my arm and a daunting perspective on what the rest of my life was going to be like. I know full well that it is with the backing of Diabetes UK that am able to use the awesome pieces of technology that help me and all the 400,000 other type 1's across the country get through each day.
- Alzheimers/ Dementia Support. This is another very personal charity to me, as my late Grandpa who passed away over the COVID pandemic had been diagnosed with this horrible disease in 2012 which sadly meant that for a lot of my living memory this affected him. Throughout my life I have heard wonderful stories about his life both from him and those surrounding him. I have also see the toll that supporting those with Alzheimers can take. This is why I have chosen Alzheimers/ Dementia support.
Freddie
- Anthony Nolan helps people fighting blood cancer and blood disorders. Using stem cell matches they can give people the best chance of survival. Having people sign up to the stem cell register gives a greater chance of a match and a chance to save someone.
Having not run a marathon yet and ultra marathon is going to be a huge test for me. Please donate however small as will all go to a great cause.

These are two great causes guys, close to my heart - my nephew has type 1 diabetes and my grandmother and auntie both died of blood cancer (AML). All the very best for the run and good on you.

It looks like you are outside of the UK.
