Established in 2010, Walking With The Wounded ‘WWTW’ is a leading military charity which recognises that those who served, deserve.
To relieve hardship or distress of former and serving members of the Regiment or former members of the former Regiments and their dependants. To promote the efficiency of the Regiment in such ways as the Managing Trustees from time to time see fit.
On the 6th of June 1944 at 0735, the 1st Hampshire Regiment embarked from Southampton and landed on 'JIG Green' sector of Gold beach in Normandy as part of a large-scale landing operation. Their initial objective was to reach the seaside village of Le Hamel. This historic event serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our predecessors.
Looking towards the future, the 1st Battalion, The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (1 PWRR), has organised an event called the Ultimate Sacrifice, which will take place in May - June 2024. The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the Regimental Benevolent Fund, Walking with the Wounded, and the British War Memorial in Normandy. It also aims to increase awareness of the physical and mental challenges faced by those who came before us, helping to prepare future troops for their roles, both domestically and in operational settings.
The Ultimate Sacrifice will span from the 31st of May to the 6th of June 2024, starting at the Royal Headquarters (RHQ) in the Tower of London and concluding at Gold beach in Normandy. This symbolic journey will honour the bravery and sacrifice of our ancestors.
“When you go home, tell them of us and say, for their tomorrow, we gave our today”
