The Big Swim
Hello,
Linnie, Ted, Evie, Rachel, Sarah, Lauren, Megan, Lynden, Niki, Anna and Tom are doing a sponsored swim for two great causes - and we’d love you to sponsor us!
Did you know that there simply aren't enough female-only spaces in London for homeless women?
And did you know that there are no club-standard cricket grounds in the UK that prioritise girls' and women's cricket?
And that the brilliant Lambeth Tigers football club hasn't had a permanent home until now?
Neither did we. So when we found all this out, we decided to raise money for two capital projects that are fixing this.
The first, 18 Keys, will provide much-needed accommodation for high-dependency homeless women in London, with round-the-clock staff and safe access to services. The £1.8m fundraising campaign to convert living spaces and create a communal events space is being run by St Martin-in-the-Fields Trust.
The second, the Griffin Sports Ground, is a project by the London Youth Sports Trust, who are renovating the ground. Excitingly, they need a drainage system and those are pretty expensive - about £100k.
We're hoping to raise £2,000 - that's £1,000 per project - and all funds raised will be split equally between the projects.
The sponsored swim will be taking place on 27 November in Brixton. Some of us are swimming a few lengths, others more, depending on our ability! And a few are swimming in their own time, at their own pool.
