Carnell Trek's Mount Snowdon
Carnell trek Mount Snowdon to raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research and Mind.
On October 5th, 2024, we're embarking on an epic trek up Mount Snowdon to support two incredible causes: Brain Tumour Research and Mind. These charities hit close to home, touching the lives of our own colleagues facing brain cancer and mental health challenges either directly or through their families.
Scaling Mount Snowdon is no small feat, but doing it while rallying funds and awareness for these causes is nothing short of extraordinary. We're calling on all our colleagues to lace up their boots and join us on this adventure, whether on the trek or by fundraising and spreading the word. Let's work together to fund the fight against brain cancer and mental health problems!
Mark's Story:
On the 5th of March 2023, Mark and Julie received the unfortunate news of the passing of their beloved son, Nathan, following a personal struggle with mental health challenges.
The loss of a loved one can significantly impact an individual's mental well-being, especially in cases of tragic circumstances. While the government has concentrated on the backlog of NHS elective care, there remains an urgent necessity for funding to meet the rising demands of approximately 9.6 million people awaiting mental health services.
Mark and Julie, staunch advocates for mental health awareness and support, are preparing to embark on a journey to summit Mount Snowdon in honour of their son, Nathan. With the arrival of a precious granddaughter from Nathan and Paige, named Nathara, there is a shared commitment to fostering a future where mental health concerns receive equitable and serious attention similar to other health issues.
Participating in the trek alongside colleagues, Mark says, “to raise awareness and crucial funds for Mind and its beneficiaries through through a trek up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) with colleagues is great. The money and awareness raised will have significant positive impacts on so many.”
Dan's Story:
Dan’s niece Esmai was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of brain cancer at just 7 months old. Recounting Esmai's challenging journey Dan says, “After multiple misdiagnoses and following a strenuous battle with medics for a brain scan our family received the heart breaking news that Esmai had a grapefruit-sized brain tumour that was rapidly growing. This led to a swift transfer to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool for a 6-hour surgery to remove the tumour.
Subsequently, Esmai underwent a gruelling year-long regimen of intensive and experimental chemotherapy with numerous associated punishing symptoms. The trial Esmai is now part of is thanks to the vital research work carried out by organisation like Brain Tumour Research. As she was too young for radiotherapy, her situation remained precarious. Despite the need for regular brain scans every three months over several years, the family celebrates Esmai's third birthday and her resilient spirit. Dan credits the remarkable work of organisations like Brain Tumour Research for offering hope to individuals like Esmai, enabling them to share their inspiring stories of survival.”
