EldersOnTheRun on the Runway!
196
At midnight on Saturday 3 September, it will be chocks away for Mike, Alison and Bex Elder as they set off to run 3.5K along the lit runway at Aberdeen Airport.
In a welcome acknowledgement of health and safety concerns, the organisers of this special event have guaranteed that no planes will be landing or taking off during the race!
The run, which is organised jointly by CHC Helicopters and Aberdeen International Airport, is being held to raise money for three amazing local charities.
Kayleigh’s Wee Stars provides financial support for families where a child has a terminal illness and helps them, in particular, to create special memories during a hugely difficult time for all concerned.
Friends of ANCHOR supports cancer and haematology care in the North-east of Scotland, finding all kinds of inspirational ways to make a difference for patients and their families.
We Too! helps parents and carers of children with additional support needs in superbly practical ways - for example, by publishing a one-stop magazine full of relevant advice and invaluable local information and by providing peer support through a monthly children’s club and a school holiday programme.
We are delighted to be raising money for all three of these charities through the Runway Run and will be thrilled if you would add your support by sponsoring us as every penny counts for each of these brilliant organisations, and your donations will make a significant difference to each of them.
As you can imagine (and especially because two of the three of us are not natural runners!), we have each sought inspiration for this event from those who have gone before. The Commonwealth Games exploits of Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan made them natural role model selections for Alison and Bex, but we’re hoping that Mike’s choice of Forrest Gump won't mean that he just keeps running and running once he crosses the finishing line!
Please do support EldersOnTheRun as we do the Runway Run, and – most of all – please lend your support to these three amazing charities!
