Vietnam to Cambodia Cycle 2023

Hi everyone! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
As some of you may know I have signed up for a 450km cycle in November this year in Vietnam and Cambodia. But all of you will know that I am always up for a challenge, and this is my next one. Fortunately, I am sharing the adventure with my mates Tora, Kathleen, and Tricia. We are all very excited and have been busy training together when we can but usually separately, as we all live a distance from each other (Teddington, Reading, Bristol, and Calgary!)
The ride itself is over 9 days, is supposed to be mainly flat (will let you know at the end!), and is going to be pretty humid (eek!). But the exciting part for me (as with India in 2020) is weaving our way around all the sights, sounds, and smells! And immersing ourselves in the culture and people across these two amazing countries. I am particularly looking forward to visiting Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong River, Angkor Wat, and Siem Reap. But apart from the major sites, it's the scenery and people that will make the event really memorable!
We’re going again with Dream Challenges – here is more information about the ride itself: https://www.dream-challenges.com/challenges/cycle-vietnam-to-cambodia/
And I have finally decided that I will try to raise some money for two particular causes which have personal and professional significance. If you could donate even the smallest amount I know the two charities I have chosen will be so grateful!
The two charities I have chosen, I fundraised for three years ago, and they still need your help! They are Dyscover: www.dyscover.org.uk and Momentum: www.momentumcharity.org
Dyscover supports people who have long-term communication difficulties known as aphasia following a neurological condition. I have chosen this charity as this is an area professionally in which I have worked for nearly 40 years and continue to do so. It's a fantastic service, which I know benefits many of my clients over the long term.Momentum supports children with cancer and life-challenging conditions, and their families, across London, Surrey, and Sussex. The reason I have chosen Momentum is that I have some close friends who sadly lost their daughter at a young age. They have been working tirelessly to support this charity for many years and Woody & I try to help where we can.
DYSCOVERFor almost 30 years, Dyscover has been providing long-term support and opportunity to people with aphasia and their families. Aphasia is a neurological condition, acquired through stroke, brain injury, or rare forms of dementia. Aphasia affects a person’s communication, including speaking, reading, and writing, and understanding and processing language. It can cause feelings of isolation, frustration, and depression. Dyscover works to inform, support, and empower people with aphasia to manage their communication disability and to re-engage with life. They create an aphasia-friendly environment in which people feel included, valued, and have a sense of purpose. Dyscover provides a structured programme of weekly supported conversation groups, both in person and online. These are led by professional speech and language therapists and are designed to help people to adjust to living with aphasia. Dyscover helps people with aphasia to develop strategies for communicating, maximise their abilities, and also provides help and support for partners, carers, and other family members. Dyscover relies on fundraising and donations to provide their crucial services. For more information about Dyscover: www.dyscover.org.uk
MOMENTUMMomentum supports children with cancer and life-challenging conditions, and their families, across London, Surrey, and Sussex. They partner with local hospitals, who refer families to their Family Support Workers following a child’s diagnosis. Momentum's support services, including counselling, creative therapies, respite breaks, peer-to-peer support, and special experiences, aim to address individuals’ mental health needs, reduce their feelings of isolation and help them cope more easily. If a child dies, Momentum is there to offer bereavement support to families. They also create a more positive experience for children in hospital, through their children's ward refurbishments and in-hospital support services.
