Dave Babister & Chris Mount
12414
In April 2026 David & Chris will attempt to walk the entirety of the Wainwright Coast to Coast - 192 miles in 10 days from St Bees on the west coast, to Robin Hoods Bay on the east (the usual time is 14-17 days).
They will hike the route fully self-sufficient, other than the odd sandwich drop by Dave's wife and restocks from local shops. They’ll also carry all of their gear (tent, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, food & clothes) on their backs for the duration of the trip, camping 6 of the 9 nights.
They are aiming to raise monies to be split between Cancer Research UK & Dorothy House Hospice. They have chosen these charities as both Dave and Chris have lost family members and friends to cancer. Dorothy House more recently having taken care of Dave’s brother-in-law who passed away in January from an aggressive adenocarcinoma.
//
Dave and Chris' backstory:
Having met over 15 years ago when Chris did some work for Dave at his architectural practice, they soon connected over a love of adventure and doing slightly mad endurance events. They’ve remained good friends since, even though Chris did end up leaving the architectural world (nothing to do with Dave!).
Dave has completed a string of long-distance endurance events, including multiple Ironman, long distance cycling and ultra running events. Chris has run the length of the UK and swam the River Thames, with Dave helping out for legs on both of those events. They've raised money for charity on many of these events, totalling around £12,000 to date.
In 2014, Dave had the mad idea of running the length of the Pennine way - 268 miles in 10 days - and asked Chris to join him. In September 2015, they successfully trotted into The Border Hotel pub in Kirk Yetholm for a celebratory pint having raised £3350 for charity. That was the first multi-day endurance event they completed together.
It's been a long time coming, but they are now rejoining forces, relacing their shoes and heading out on the 192-mile coast to coast hike along the Wainwright Way.
The aim is to raise £2500 to be split between Cancer Research UK & Dorothy House Hospice.
Thank you in advance for any donations,
Dave and Chris
