Archie Lucas

Archie is the younger of twins born almost 10 weeks prematurely. Life began in incubators with heart murmurs, jaundice, tube feeding and respiratory problems.Slow to reach their milestones, Archie was also diagnosed asthmatic and found to have an extremely rare and unresearched duplicate chromosome consisting of several mild to moderate conditions and sensory issues. Due to concerns and struggles Archie has always avoided running.Following a cautious 18 months shielding during Covid we decided as a family this was causing more harm than good so Archie joined the Royal Navy VCC and a short time after the Super 1's cricket programme. These 2 groups along with his current College Provider have enormously benefitted Archie and the inclusion, support and encouragement along with discipline has really aided Archie to focus. The RNVCC led to starting his Duke of Edinburgh journey and his confidence grew under the Super 1's Cricket (Lord Taveners) to try new things. In 3 years Archie has completed his Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, achieved Cadet and Field Gunner of the Year, and thanks to his amazing sensei, Alan, is now a brown belt in Karate, volunteers for a local disabled group (who supported his placements throughout his DofE challenge), as a Staff Member at a VCC Unit and has commenced his 2nd year on a Uniformed Services course where his fantastic tutors have encouraged him to be the best he can be.Having successfully completed his Gold Expedition recently with his College managing to walk 20km's per day Archie was excited to be selected in a ballot by the Lord Taveners to participate in next years London Marathon. This is a huge challenge transfering to tarmac and confronting his sensory needs. Unable to run the whole distance Archie is very determined draw on his resilience and stamina to follow a strict training programme despite his busy lifestyle with the goal of completing the entire distance hoping to achieve a time within the official cut off time. Thankyou to Ben, a local cricket coach, who has agreed to support me in my challenge and during the marathon. With his help I will train to start running from scratch.
